Antiyal Carmenere 2008

The 2008 Carmenere Alto del Maipo Valley (100%) was fermented and aged in cement tank. Deep purple in color with legs that coat the glass, it offers up a superb aromatic array of herbs, exotic spices, truffle, a hint of balsamic, blueberry, and blackberry. Plush, sweetly-fruited, complex, and pleasure-bent, this intense, powerful offering will benefit from 4-5 years of additional bottle age to fill out. It offers a drinking window extending from 2016 to 2023 and possibly longer. Carmenere does not get much better than this. JM

Antiyal 2008

Antiyal’s 2008 Alto del Maipo Valley is composed of 52% Carmenere, 25% Syrah, and 23% Cabernet Sauvignon aged for 12 months in French oak. It offers up an already complex bouquet of Asian spice, herbal notes, incense, tobacco, blueberry, and blackberry. In the glass it opens to reveal full body, plush, layered fruit, succulent flavors, excellent balance, and a lengthy, fruit-filled finish. Give it 3-4 years of additional cellaring to reveal its full potential and drink this classy effort from 2015 to 2023.  JM

Lovely aromas of crushed berry fruit, violets and spice, with supple layers of fruit, minerals, loam and tar running through the lengthy finish. The fruit darkens up nicely on the finish too, so this may well put on weight in the cellar. Carmenère, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah. Drink now through 2007. Tasted twice, with consistent notes. 400 cases made. (JM)

Dreamy nose of cassis bush, dark currant, lilac, tar and hot stone, with a plush, full-bodied palate dripping with dark fruit, meat and loam notes. Really suave, picking up grip and muscle on the finish, where the fruit powers through. A distinct combination of varietal character and Chilean terroir. Carmenère, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah.
